Với các phương tiện điện toán và Internet hiện có, việc biên soạn một quyển tự điển chữ Nôm điện tử rõ ràng, chính xác, đầy đủ, dễ dùng và có thể mở ra những chiều hướng nghiên cứu mới là điều rất khả thi. Phương thức thu nhập dữ kiện bằng cách lột soát các hình thái chữ Nôm từ những văn bản Nôm được xem như là một giải pháp hữu ích và có tính thuyết phục. Mỗi một chữ Nôm trong tự điển đều phải được dẫn chứng bằng các thí dụ cụ thể trích dẫn từ các văn bản Nôm khác nhau. Tự điển còn cần phải có phương cách giải thích cấu trúc của chữ Nôm theo ngữ nghĩa của chữ. Một tự điển chữ Nôm điện tử cần phải được hỗ trợ bởi những phương tiện kỹ thuật hiện đại như dễ truyền thông qua mạng Internet, dễ tra cứu (bằng âm Quốc Ngữ, mặt chữ, mã chữ, hoặc tập hợp chữ, v.v), và nhất là có tính cách quốc tế, máy nào cũng dùng được. Để đáp ứng được các nhu cầu đó, cần có một bộ font chữ Nôm theo mã chuẩn quốc tế (Unicode). Thêm vào đó, cần có một cơ sở dữ kiện (database) được xác định ngay từ bước đầu để chứa đựng các thông tin về một chữ Nôm như mặt chữ, mã chữ, âm Hán Việt, âm đọc, cấu trúc, văn liệu, v.v… Kế đến là một giao diện cho người dùng (end-user’s interface), cho phép người dùng tra cứu và tìm kiếm (search) các thông tin chứa đựng trong kho dữ kiện này một cách dễ dàng và nhanh chóng. Ngoài ra, cần một giao diện (interface) dành riêng cho Ban Biên Tập (BBT) để nhập dữ kiện vào kho dữ kiện và thảo luận những vấn đề liên quan đến mọi khía cạnh của tự điển. Ngoài các chức năng tra cứu của một tự điển thông thường, tự điển còn có thể mở rộng để hỗ trợ công việc thống kê và phiên âm. Một BBT với nhiều khả năng và trình độ khác nhau về cả chữ Nôm lẫn kỹ thuật điện toán, cư ngụ ở nhiều nơi trên thế giới, sẽ mang lại những thành quả mà một cá nhân khó có thể làm nổi. BBT cần phải xác định các quy trình làm việc rõ ràng, với một số nguyên tắc về quản lý dự án (project management) và phát triển phần mềm (software development) để bảo đảm tính thống nhất và chất lượng của tự điển. Cuối cùng là vài khía cạnh của quyển Tự Điển Chữ Nôm Trích Dẫn được thiết kế theo chiều hướng trên.

Abstract

With the current computer and Internet technologies, it is feasible to compose a clear, precise, complete, easy-to-use electronic Nom characters dictionary that opens the door to new researching capabilities. The method of collecting Nom characters by searching through Nom literature is recommended as a useful and convincing solution. Each Nom character in the dictionary needs to be accompanied with quoted excerpts from multiple Nom writings. The dictionary also needs to explain the composing structure of each character in context of the illustrated examples. An electronic Nom dictionary needs to incorporate current modern technologies which make it easy to broadcast through the Internet and easy to search (by Quoc Ngu, character, Unicode number, or by a set of characters, …). Most importantly, it has to be compatible among computers and computer platforms. In order to satisfy these demands, a Nom font conforming to Unicode standards needs to be created. In addition, a database structure needs to be defined from the beginning with essential fields such as characters, Unicode number, Quoc Ngu pinyin, structure of the characters, examples, reference sources, etc. Two user interfaces are required: an end-user’s interface and a developer’s interface. The end-user’s interface provides searching and querying capabilities to retrieve data from the database. The developer’s interface allows the Working Committee to record data and to collaborate all aspects of the work. Besides for the normal searching capabilities, the dictionary can also be expanded to provide statistical and translating tools. The Committee with different levels of knowledge and experiences not only in Nom characters and literature but also in computer technology, from different parts of the world, will bring more complete and comprehensive results, which are much more difficult to achieve by an individual. To ensure consistency and quality of the dictionary, the Committee needs to establish a working process, which conforms to proven project management and software development principles. Lastly, we will share some of design specifications of recently released Online Dictionary of Nom Characters with Excerpts.
